Efek Kehadiran Cristiano Ronaldo

MADRID - Kerja keras pengurus untuk mendatangkan Cristiano Ronaldo ke Santiago Bernabeu (markas Real Madrid) bakal sia-sia. Sebab, jika Ronaldo resmi mengenakan kostum Real Madrid, dia tak akan mendapat sambutan hangat dari rekan-rekannya.

Peringatan dini itu kemarin (17/7) disampaikan Wesley Sneijder. Gelandang El Real (julukan Real Madrid) tersebut khawatir efek kehadiran Ronaldo akan membuat suasana di kamar ganti menjadi panas. Penyebabnya adalah tingginya harga yang dibayar Madrid untuk seorang Ronaldo, dan yang pasti gaji yang lebih besar dibanding pemain-pemain lainnya.

''Situasi akan menjadi buruk di dalam ruang ganti pemain. Sebab, dia memperoleh gaji yang jauh lebih besar daripada yang lain,'' tegas Sneijder sebagaimana dilansir The Sun.

El Real berencana memboyong Ronaldo dari Old Trafford dengan transfer 70 juta pounds atau sekitar Rp 1,2 triliun. Selain itu, pemain Timnas Portugal tersebut bakal mendapat gaji 150 ribu pounds atau sekitar Rp 2,75 miliar per pekan.

Sneijder mengungkapkan, dirinya tidak memiliki masalah pribadi dengan Ronaldo. Tapi, mantan pemain Ajax Amsterdam itu tidak bisa memastikan reaksi teman-teman setim lainnya. ''Sangat penting untuk menjaga stabilitas dalam skuad. Memuji Ronaldo terlalu tinggi di sini sepertinya kurang memberi hormat kepada pemain lain yang sudah menunjukkan kelasnya,'' katanya.

Sneijder optimitis El Real masih bisa meraih pretasi terbaik, meski tanpa mendatangkan Ronaldo. Sebab, saat ini, tim besutan Bernd Schuster itu punya sederet pemain berkelas. ''Bagi saya, Madrid tidak perlu menambah anggota baru. Saat ini, kami sudah solid dan akan menjadi lebih solid,'' tegasnya.

''Cristiano (Ronaldo, Red) adalah pemain yang berbakat dan kedatangannya ke Madrid pasti akan disambut seluruh tim. Namun, saat ini kami tidak ingin banyak berkomentar tentang dia. Di sini ada Arjen Robben atau Robinho yang kualitasnya tidak kalah dari Ronaldo. Saya juga ingin Robinho dipertahankan,'' ujar Sneijder.

Most investors would be delighted with a 35 percent increase in net income, but not when it's Google in a soft advertising market and the results fell short of expectations. Here are highlights of what Chief Executive Eric Schmidt and others had to say during Google's conference call about its second-quarter financial results.

• To recap, Google reported net income of 1.25 billion, a 35 percent increase over the earlier year. But earnings per share, excluding various items, were $4.63 per share, short of the $4.74 expected by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters. Revenue increased 39 percent to $5.37 billion. Excluding $1.47 billion in commissions called traffic acquisition costs, the revenue was $3.88 billion. Analysts had expected revenue, excluding commissions, of $3.9 billion.

• "We're very pleased with what we believe are good results in one of the weaker quarters in our normal cycle," Schmidt said. "Traffic and revenue held up well despite uncertain economic conditions."

• "The partnership with Yahoo is obviously the signature event," Schmidt said of the quarter. "We believe the ad deal is a win for the industry because it allows Yahoo to remain independent."

• Outgoing CFO George Reyes said the biggest expense was Google's data centers; capital expenses totaled $698 million. Hiring was a relatively slow, increasing by only 448 to reach 19,604.

• Chief Economist Hal Varian: "Despite the weakness in the economy, ad revenue seems to be holding up well in most sectors." The weakest sector looks like real estate.

• Co-founder Sergey Brin: "We substantially increased the size of our index. The index we refresh every few minutes has grown tremendously, so our users get much fresher and faster results across a greater range of sources."

• Brin: "AdSense now allows third parties to host and serve ads. It's important to many advertisers. Lenovo is now advertising with us because we can support third-party advertising."

• Ah, now to the heart of the matter. Brin said Google is having second thoughts about how much it reduced "coverage": the fraction of search results that have ads. Google generally tries to reduce coverage to drop low-quality ads that searchers don't click on, but it may have overshot the mark, he said.

"There is some evidence that we were perhaps a little overly aggressive in decreasing coverage in the past quarter," Brin said. "Historically...we try to reduce our coverage at the same time as improving the monetization. Clearly that's not the ideal strategy indefinitely, because we don't want to end up with no ads. From a quality point of view, ads are a significant addition to our page."

• Schmidt, who has spoken of the urgency of converting YouTube popularity into revenue, had this to add: "We're enormously happy with YouTube. The cultural and end-user success is far, far greater than we ever expected. We're working on revenue scenarios, and newer (ad) products. I personally do not believe the perfect YouTube ad (mechanism) has been invented. We just rolled out in-video ads."

• More from Schmidt on YouTube, as he calls finding the right ad model the "holy grail" that will mean tremendous revenue.

• Brin said Google has "increased coverage in universal search," under which Google search results show not just a list of Web pages but also pull in results such as maps, videos, and images.

In the first quarter about a tenth of queries showed universal search results, but now, "A bit under a third of our queries now have a bit of universal search in them," Brin said. "Our feeling is, and our experiments (show), this is significantly improved information for our users. I think you'll find increasing universal coverage in corpuses that you wouldn't expect." And it's the unexpected universal results that are valuable, he said, where, for example, Google shows a video on a search where the user wouldn't have thought to click on the video search tab.

• I wasn't overpowered by the ability to add artwork or other fancier graphical skins to iGoogle, the company's customizable home page, but apparently some people were when the company launched it in April. "Hundreds of thousands signed up for iGoogle because of themes," Brin said.

SAMARINDA - Gelar juara umum Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PON) XVII/2008 yang diraih Jatim benar-benar sempurna. Hal itu seiring dengan sukses tim sepak bola Jatim meraih medali emas setelah mengalahkan Papua 1-0 (1-0) pada partai final di Stadion Utama Palaran, Samarinda, kemarin (17/6).

Kemenangan tersebut mengukuhkan tradisi Jatim di cabang sepak bola. Dalam empat edisi PON terakhir, emas sepak bola berhasil diraih Jatim. Hanya, pada PON XVI/2004, Jatim harus ''berbagi emas'' dengan Papua karena kedua tim dinyatakan sebagai juara bersama.

Tidak seperti final empat tahun lalu yang berakhir ''damai'', laga Jatim kontra Papua kemarin benar-benar seru dan tuntas. Apalagi, kedua tim memiliki rekor perjalanan yang mentereng menuju final. Papua tak terkalahkan, sedangkan Jatim hanya sekali kalah menuju partai puncak (dari Papua Barat di babak enam besar, Red).

Duel menarik pun tersaji sejak awal pertandingan. Jatim memecah kebuntuan lewat gol yang dicetak Rendy Irwan pada menit ke-17. Itulah satu-satunya gol yang lahir di pertandingan itu sekaligus mengantar Jatim meraih emas.

''Kamilah juara sejati yang membawa pulang emas murni, bukan setengah emas,'' kata Aji Santoso, pelatih tim sepak bola Jatim, sesudah pertandingan. Pernyataan Aji merujuk pada ''insiden'' juara bersama yang diraih tim sepak bola Jatim dan Papua pada PON di Palembang empat tahun lalu.

Jatim memulai pertandingan dengan penuh percaya diri. Meski kehilangan striker andalan Dede Hugo Kunarko yang cedera sehari sebelum pertandingan, permainan Jatim di setiap lini tetap seimbang. Posisi Dede Hugo digantikan Jaya Teguh Angga yang menemani Harmoko sebagai duet penyerang.

Sejak awal pertandingan, Jatim lebih berani mengambil inisiatif menyerang. Rony Nurdiansyah dkk mampu mengendalikan tempo permainan. Papua yang terbiasa bermain cepat dari kaki ke kaki dipaksa ikut dalam ritme permainan Jatim yang sedikit lambat.

Setelah mencetak gol, permainan Jatim berkembang. Sementara Papua semakin tertekan dan beberapa kali gagal memanfaatkan peluang. Kondisi itu menyebabkan para pemain Papua frustrasi. Mereka mulai bermain kasar dan kurang sportif.

North Korea's "Hotel of Doom" wakes from its coma

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea's phantom hotel is stirring back to life. Once dubbed by Esquire magazine as "the worst building in the history of mankind," the 105-storey Ryugyong Hotel is back under construction after a 16-year lull in the capital of one of the world's most reclusive and destitute countries.

According to foreign residents in Pyongyang, Egypt's Orascom group has recently begun refurbishing the top floors of the three-sided pyramid-shaped hotel whose 330-metre (1,083 ft) frame dominates the Pyongyang skyline.

The firm has put glass panels into the concrete shell, installed telecommunications antennas -- even though the North forbids its citizens to own mobile phones -- and put up an artist's impression of what it will look like.

An official with the group said its Orascom Telecom subsidiary was involved in the project but gave no details.

The hotel consists of three wings rising at 75 degree angles capped by several floors arranged in rings supposed to hold five revolving restaurants and an observation deck.

A creaky building crane has for years sat unused at the top of the 3,000-room hotel in a city where tourists are only occasionally allowed to visit.

"It is not a beautiful design. It carries little iconic or monumental significance, but sheer muscular and massive presence," said Lee Sang Jun, a professor of architecture at Yonsei University in Seoul.

The communist North started construction in 1987, in a possible fit of jealousy at South Korea, which was about to host the 1988 Summer Olympics and show off to the world the success of its rapidly developing economy.

A concrete shell built by North Korea's Paektu Mountain Architects & Engineers emerged over the next few years. A proud North Korea put a likeness of the hotel on postage stamps and boasted about the structure in official media.

According to intelligence sources, then North Korean leader Kim Il-sung saw the hotel as a symbol of his big dreams for the state he founded, while his son and current leader Kim Jong-il was a driving force in its construction.

But by 1992, worked was halted. The North's main benefactor the Soviet Union had dissolved a year earlier and funding for the hotel had vanished. For a time, the North airbrushed images of the Ryugyong Hotel from photographs.

As the North's economy took a deeper turn for the worse in the 1990s the empty shell became a symbol of the country's failure, earning nicknames "Hotel of Doom" and "Phantom Hotel."

Yonsei's Lee and other architects said there were questions raised about whether the hotel was structurally sound and a few believed completing the structure could cause it to collapse.

It would cost up to $2 billion to finish the Ryugyong Hotel and make it safe, according to estimates in South Korean media. That is equivalent to about 10 percent of the North's annual economic output.

Bruno Giberti, associate head of California Polytechnic State University's Department of Architecture, said the project was typical of what has been produced recently in many cities trying to show their emerging wealth by constructing gigantic edifices that were not related in scale to anything else around them.

"If this is the worst building in the world, the runners up are in Vegas and Shanghai," said Giberti.

Transformasi ke Musik Disko

JAKARTA - Aktor sekaligus komedian Ronal Surapradja bertransformasi menjadi musisi. Salah satu pemicunya adalah fenomena kemunculan musisi baru di Indonesia, khususnya grup band. Sayang, kata Ronal, musisi baru tersebut menyuguhkan jenis musik yang hampir semuanya serupa. "Bukan hanya musiknya yang mirip. Tapi, tampang vokalisnya juga," ujarnya.

Ronal berharap, album perdananya, Ronaldisko, bisa memberi variasi musik untuk masyarakat Indonesia. Untuk gebrakan musik pertama Ronal, dia memilih genre disko. "Jadi, kalau lagi di musik, panggil saya Ronaldisko, jangan Ronal Surapradja atau Ronal Extravaganza," ungkapnya percaya diri saat wawancara di kantor Aquarius di kawasan Batu Tulis, Jakarta, kemarin (17/7).

Pria kelahiran Bandung, 26 Mei 1977 itu menyatakan masih hijau di industri musik. Namun sejatinya, salah seorang pemain Extravaganza tersebut pernah mendirikan boy band bernama Golok Cinta. Band itu, menurut dia, menjadi boy band paling hancur di Bandung. "Tapi, memang, passion chemistry saya sebetulnya di musik. Kebetulan, karir bermula dari komedi karena ada peluang," jelasnya.

Dengan alasan itu, Ronal meminta masyarakat tidak heran jika melihat dirinya serius di musik. Dia mengibaratkan perubahan diri itu seperti Clark Kent yang berubah jadi Superman atau Bruce Wayne jadi Batman. "Begitu pun saya yang jadi Ronaldisko," tegas suami Seruni Purnamasari itu.

Untuk penampilan di atas panggung, Ronal memilih gaya Robert Smith-nya The Cure atau para personel Depeche Mode. "Saya besar pada era 80-an. Sejak SD saya sudah dengar Duran Duran. Saya juga pernah siaran di sebuah radio di Bandung yang kaya musik 80-an. Musik breakdance itu nempel di kepala," jelasnya.

Ronal mengonsep sendiri album, penampilan, serta dandanan. Menurut dia, itu bukti bahwa dirinya artis serbabisa dengan harga bersaing. "Tapi, mixing (musik) dibantu Indra Lesmana sesuai saran Armand Maulana. Awalnya sempat keringat dingin, takut dibilang nggak bisa nyanyi. Tapi, ternyata Armand asyik dan sangat mengerti kemauan saya," pujinya.

Apakah ke depan tetap disko? "Saya kepikiran membuat trilogi. Jadi, kalau pertama Ronaldisko, kedua mungkin Rocknal karena musiknya rock, dan ketiga Ronal Suraprajazz karena musiknya jazz," ucapnya dengan canda yang khas

Untuk Sumiarsih dan Sugeng

SURABAYA - Sehari kemarin suasana tegang sangat terasa di Rutan Medaeng, Sidoarjo. Petugas kepolisian, kejaksaan, dan petugas rutan sibuk mempersiapkan eksekusi terhadap dua terpidana mati, Sumiarsih dan Sugeng. Sejak Selasa (15/7) lalu, ibu dan anak pembunuh keluarga Letkol Mar Purwanto pada 1988 itu menjalani isolasi sebelum menghadapi regu tembak.

Sejak pagi, sekitar sepuluh orang berseragam polisi dan bersenjata lengkap terlihat berjaga-jaga sekitar sepuluh meter dari Rutan Medaeng. Mereka bergerombol di pinggir jalan sambil mengawasi gerak-gerik orang yang melewati jalan tersebut. "Kami ditugaskan tiga hari ini (sejak Selasa, Red). Setelah ini selesai," kata seorang petugas yang sedang berjaga.

Di lingkungan rutan dan Kejaksaan Tinggi Jatim berkembang informasi bahwa Sumiarsih akan dieksekusi pukul 00.00 dini hari tadi. Namun, Jawa Pos yang terus nyanggong di dua institusi tersebut tak melihat tanda-tanda akan dilakukan eksekusi. Bahkan, ketika mendekati pukul 00.00, petugas pengawal dari kepolisian dan petugas keamanan rutan sudah dikurangi. Hingga pukul 00.30 juga tidak ada tanda-tanda kedua terpidana mati itu dibawa keluar dari Rutan Medaeng.

Sempat berkembang kabar bahwa eksekusi diundur hingga nanti malam atau Sabtu dini hari besok. Hal itu diperkuat dengan belum tibanya pembimbing rohani Sumiarsih, Yani Lim. Gembala yang ditunggu-tunggu Sumiarsih itu rencananya datang ke Medaeng pagi ini.

Asisten Intelijen Kejati Jatim A.F. Darmawan tak mau bicara soal waktu eksekusi. "Itu rahasia," katanya. Begitu juga Kasi Pidum Kejari Surabaya Roch Adi Wibowo. "No comment. Itu perintah pimpinan," ujarnya.

Kesibukan yang sama terlihat di Instalasi Kedokteran Forensik dan Medikolegal RSU dr Soetomo. Sejak pagi kamar jenazah itu sudah melakukan persiapan menerima kedatangan jenazah Sumiarsih dan Sugeng. Dua peti mati juga sudah dipersiapkan. Lingkungan kamar jenazah disterilkan.

Biasanya, jalan menuju kamar jenazah digunakan tempat parkir mobil dokter. Tapi, kemarin tak ada mobil yang boleh parkir di sana. ''Tadi pagi (kemarin, Red) juga ada tiga petugas yang datang ke sini. Mereka melihat-lihat situasi di kamar jenazah ini dan minta disterilkan,'' kata salah seorang petugas kamar jenazah.

RSU dr Soetomo juga menyiapkan tim untuk menangani hal itu. ''Ya, tiap hari kan ada dokter jaga dan dokter supervisor. Jadi, tak ada persiapan khusus,'' kata dr Slamet Riyadi Yuwono DTM&H MARS, direktur RSU dr Soetomo.

Kemarin Slamet memerintahkan mereka siaga di tempat selama 24 jam. Mulai dokter, petugas kamar jenazah, hingga sopir ambulans. ''Kami menyiagakan ambulans untuk mengantarkan jenazah dari kamar mayat ke rumah duka atau tempat pemakaman,'' katanya.

Slamet belum tahu siapa yang akan mengangkut jenazah dari lokasi eksekusi ke kamar jenazah RSU dr Soetomo. ''Saya hanya diminta menyiapkan dari kamar mayat ke rumah duka atau pemakaman,'' paparnya. ''Tapi, kami juga menyiapkan bila sewaktu-waktu diperlukan,'' tambahnya.

Mengenai jalur pengangkutan jenazah, Slamet menyerahkan sepenuhnya ke kepala Instalasi Kedokteran Forensik. Tapi, berdasarkan pengalaman Astini (juga terpidana mati kasus pembunuhan) dulu, wartawan sempat dikecoh. Saat itu, setelah dibersihkan, jenazah Astini dibawa ke ambulans melalui pintu tembusan.

Sementara itu, sejak kemarin pagi Sugeng menerima banyak tamu dari orang-orang terdekat. Sekitar pukul 11.30 Rose Mey Wati, adik Sugeng lain bapak, terlihat memasuki rutan bersama Felicia (pacar Sugeng) dan dua anaknya. Di sana perempuan yang akrab dipanggil Wati itu bertemu Sugeng sekitar satu jam.

Jawa Pos mendapatkan informasi bahwa pertemuan Wati dengan Sugeng dipermasalahkan kejaksaan. Alasannya, keluarga Wati dianggap telah membocorkan rencana eksekusi kepada para wartawan. Akhirnya, kejaksaan membatasi pertemuan Wati dengan kakak iparnya itu selama 30 menit saja.

"Ini tidak adil. Tidak ada hak bagi kejaksaan membatasi. Itu hak keluarga sebelum pelaksanaan eksekusi," kata pengacara Sugeng, M. Soleh.

Tidak lama kemudian, Rachmawati Peni Sutantri, anggota DPRD Jatim, datang untuk mengunjungi Sugeng. Politikus PDIP itu disebut-sebut sebagai cinta pertama Sugeng pada saat sekolah di SMPN 02 Jombang. Karena itulah, Sugeng memasukkan namanya ke dalam daftar nama yang boleh mengunjunginya.

Namun, Sugeng tidak berani mengungkapkan perasaannya kepada Peni. Dia memanggil Peni dengan sebutan Kamelia. "Waktu acara syukuran, Sugeng pernah menyanyikan lagu Kamelia di atas panggung yang sebenarnya ditujukan kepada Peni," kata seorang sumber tepercaya.

Karena itulah, dalam permintaan terakhirnya, Sugeng ingin bertemu dengan Ebiet G. Ade sebagai pencipta lagu Kamelia yang pernah menjadi sandaran perasaannya. Saat keluar rutan, Peni menandaskan bahwa dia bukanlah pacar Sugeng. "Saya teman sekolahnya dulu. Teman se-geng," katanya. Namun, pertemuan yang berlangsung singkat itu sempat diwarnai suasana haru. Baik Sugeng maupun Peni sama-sama menangis.

Saat mengunjungi Sugeng, Peni membawa air zamzam, kurma, dan sebuah tasbih. Barang itu diserahkan langsung kepada Sugeng. "Dia (Sugeng) sudah siap kok untuk menerima kenyataan hidupnya," kata anggota Komisi E DPRD Jatim tersebut. Dalam pertemuan itu, Sugeng memberikan kenang-kenangan dua bunga bonsai yang selama ini dirawatnya di Lapas Porong.

Menurut Peni, Sugeng juga sempat menyinggung lokasi pemakamannya. Menurut dia, Sugeng telah bersedia dimakamkan di Malang, berdekatan dengan makam ibunya, Sumiarsih. Tetapi, mereka tidak diletakkan dalam satu tempat karena alasan beda agama. "Sugeng tidak ngotot lagi minta dikubur di Jombang," ungkapnya.

Sementara itu, Soetedja Djajasasmita, anggota tim pengacara Sumiarsih, mengatakan, upaya hukum telah tertutup. Kejaksaan Negeri Surabaya sudah mengeluarkan surat penolakan permohonan penundaan eksekusi. "Saya mendapatkan tembusannya Rabu siang (16/7). Diterima rekan saya Joko Sumarsono," ungkap pengacara yang sejak 1993 mendampingi terpidana mati Sumiarsih itu.

Yang diharapkan untuk menunda eksekusi, kata Soetedja, adalah sebuah mukjizat. Mukjizat itu bisa berwujud turunnya surat dari Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) untuk dua terpidana mati itu. Apalagi sebelumnya Sumiarsih dan Sugeng secara pribadi telah mengirimkan surat permohonan penundaan eksekusi kepada presiden.

Menurut Sutedja, LBH Surabaya dan beberapa orang di Komnas HAM ikut mendorong agar presiden segera menjawab surat pribadi dua terpidana mati itu. Sebab, waktu eksekusi sudah dekat. Selain dua terpidana sudah menandatangani berita acara pemberitahuan dan permintaan terakhir, regu tembak juga tinggal menunggu perintah kejaksaan. "Waktu eksekusinya belum disebutkan secara jelas oleh kejaksaan," ungkap Sutedja.

Console wars heat up for 2008: Sony impresses, Microsoft surprises, Nintendo disappoints

In the two days leading up to the year's biggest video games trade show, E3, it's become something of a tradition that the competing console manufacturers face off in a series of lavish press conferences. Now that 2008's round of announcements, demonstrations, trailers, and posturing are over, which console came out on top?

Despite rumors of price cuts, Microsoft opted to expand the hard drive of its mid-range offering instead of delivering any real savings to consumers. All the same, the 360's Dashboard interface is undergoing a serious overhaul this year, and looks to be coming out cleaner, with more downloadable games, and including custom avatars that are, not to mince words, a complete rip-off of Nintendo's Miis. ("Where else could you get an avatar creation system but on Xbox Live?" one developer commented. We have no idea.) On-demand movie and TV programming courtesy of Netflix will expand the 360's already bulging video abilities, and a new motion-sensing microphone controller will deliver new horrors to the terrifying world of karaoke games.

Sony put together a similar performance, shuffling its PS3 package offerings to little real effect (although you might pick up a bargain as retailers clear stock of the older lines). It's also expanding its video offerings by offering online movie rentals from an impressive portfolio of studios -- and you can take them on the road on your PSP, too. Unlike Microsoft's offerings, which have a vague "fall" ETA, Sony's new online features should be available by the time you read this.

That wasn't all, though. Sony's press conference rolled out a set of game trailers that had fans cheering: a new God of War game on PS3, a vast-looking massive action game named MAG, and a couple of promising superhero games: one massively-multiplayer title based on the DC superhero universe, and one futuristic, open-city game from the Sly Cooper studio. It's a great selection, and one that leaves Microsoft's roster of Gears of War 2 and Fable II looking a little tired.

Mind you, that wasn't the end of the software story. Although the Sony execs weren't visibly injured, Microsoft's press conference delivered them a metaphorical punch to the gut: the absolutely huge Final Fantasy series is no longer a PlayStation exclusive. Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the 360, and unless you count the oddball, massively-multiplayer XI (we don't) it's the first time any of the modern Final Fantasy games have gone cross-platform. If nothing else dropped jaws at the Microsoft do, this announcement sure did.

In contrast, it was hard to dodge the grumbling on the way out of the Nintendo event. Where were the classic franchises we all know and love? Where, for that matter, was Mario? Nintendo fans had to make do with a new Animal Crossing title, and an oh-so-vague mention of a Grand Theft Auto game on the DS handheld. Accessories like the MotionPlus controller plug-in and the WiiSpeak microphone (pictured below) are all very well, but don't we have enough bits of plastic cluttering up our houses already?

Which, naturally, is Nintendo's modus operandi since the release of the Wii. For every disgruntled Nintendo hardcore fan, there's a whole houseful of delighted non-gamers enthused at the thought of getting together to play music without needing a bunch of instruments or, you know, any skill. But can Nintendo really deliver a music game experience that's as compelling as Rock Band?

Perhaps, perhaps not. Either way, this year's E3, so far, belongs to Sony -- and if you're still on the fence about which new system you're going to spring for, your decision just got a whole lot tougher.
